  • Sample management problem in Logic

When hitting the LEARN then OPTIMIZE buttons to Free up RAM, it removes all samples from memory showing 0 samples and 0 memory used. I've tried it countless times to no avail. Any ideas? They do all come back after hitting RESET, by the way.

Also I just finished a project using Basses Orch, Cellos Orch, Violas Orch, Violins Orch, Strings Orch and Celli Chamber. My system worked pretty smoothly having these loaded in my Instruments directory manager.
Then I decided to add 4 of the woodwind instruments for a new project and after recording a few instruments, everytime I press play, it stutters then stops and i get a Core Audio System Overload window. I've completely rebooted many times but it doesn't help.
My question is would this situation be helped by adding a few gig of RAM?
    i'm using Logic 7.2 with a G5 2.5 with 2.5 gig of RAM installed.
I saw a few prior posts addressing this but I'm still not sure.
I am having a blast with VI when I can get it to run smoothly, by the way.
Thanks for any comments anyone has.

    Hi,

After hitting the LEARN button you need to play back the track of the corresponding VI (it will learn which samples you used in that track). After doing so press OPTIMIZE and only the used samples will be kept in RAM.

Concerning your "Core Audio overload" problem: did I understand you right, that you added the woodwinds to this Basses, Celli, Violas, Violins arrangement? What does your activity monitor say (CPU & RAM load)?
However I would recommend to get 4 GB of RAM for your G5 (in total).

  • Hey Maya,

Thanks for the help on the Learn and optimize issue.

You did understnd me about adding Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon and Flutes to the existing String instruments I had in the directory.
Its had to say what my system performance window (CPU and RAM load) is reading because it trips up on the 1st note and if I try to continue I just get the system overload window immediately again. I will get more RAM tomorrow and see if that helps.
