Hi all,
Let me start by stating the positive....
The Vienna Instrument's AU plug's functionality and ease of use for constructing presets is AMAZING........awesome.....
Now the not so good.
I have constructed a plogue-bidule session with 8 instances of VI's.......all custom presets.......Now this is on my home-machine which is a Dual 2GHZ G5 with 2 Gig of RAM.....
Once the Bidule session loads, I launch the "Terminal" app to see what the memory situation is:
It tells me that the machine has circa 1 Gig of RAM Free......That's good right?
Now I start playing my keyboard.......switching between the 8 presets (never playing more than 1 preset at a time!!! )
The free memory starts sinking, lower and lower........after about 40 minutes of playing, the free memory available is only like 50 meg!!!!
Is this what is referred to as a memory leak?
Maybe I am misunderstanding something....I thought that all VI's samples are loaded into RAM...NOT streamed from disk, RIGHT?
This is really bad......because the sounds start chugging and cutting out as time goes by more and more. Something is not right!
Too trouble-shoot these memory issues, please launch "Terminal" and simply type in "top" ...a screen that is self-explanatory will appear.
PS: My DSP Buffer is set to 512 (that's high!)
Also.....Herb explained to me that the library is 24bit using somes sort of lossless compression scheme (it does sound good). Now we all know that an MP3 takes up less space than it's uncompressed version, BUT the CPU needs to work harder to play it...Could this compression deal have something to do with the problem?
jeez.....I really want this library to work...
For reference.....When using Logic 7 and the old exs24 VSL stuff...I was able to launch like 70+ instances of exs24 instances.......with no chugging
Vienna...please help..........
