Thanks to your pointers DG I know how to control the Xfader but assigning a controller and embedding midi instructions in sibelius to move the xfader is not the same as switching it on and off. To switch the xfader on and off you click on the button in the VI.

The point may be mute as it may not be important with sibelius to switch it on and off but in the tutorial the xfader is switched off for short notes and switched on for long notes so I wanted to know the midi instruction for switching it on and off.

David there is no difference. You can set it to use any controller in exactly the same way or use a keyswitch. I'll test it out tomorrow, but if I'm wrong I'll eat my hat. [[:|]]

You can also use midi learn on the On/Off button to add any controller. (same procedure like for the faders)

When I click Midi Learn on the VEL XF on off switch and press a key down nothing happens.....actually, I think it says "meta". What does that mean? Is a keyswitch not considered a "controller"?

Ummmmmmmmmm, I think that I'm going to have to buy a hat [:O]ops:

I can set the "play release" to toggle on and off with a keyswitch, but I can only set the velocity xfade to toggle on and off via a fader controller.

I also want to know how to do this. I have a track where I have carefully adjusted note velocities, and I wanted to use the VELXF on just a few notes. The problem is that if you enable this for the VI in use, it's just ON for the whole track. And when it's on, all the velocity info for each note is ignored.

I'm going to try to figure it out today. If I do, I'll certainly post my solution.

Well I seem to have got it to work. I right clicked on the on/off button went to control list set C6 as the controller then entered ~C6,0 for "off" and C6,127 for "on" in a sibelius score and that worked.

Between us we'll get this thing to make sweet music with sibelius.

It would be great if someone could post a demo where the VI was used with Sibelius. I won't be able to post my quartet for many weeks.

Yes, it only seems to respond to a continuous controller rather than a keyswitch. As a matter of interest when I set a keyswitch to toggle the playing of release sample it seems to respond to keys other than the ones I set it to. Could someone else check this as well and then explain why this is!!

It does work, but not quite as I expected. I also have to hit it twice to toggle it back on. Maybe this is by design, and I can see some situations when it could be useful. However it sees strange to me that features that are "on and off" can't all be keyswitched.

me too I'm trying to manage VIs using Sibelius as a sequencer.
I read you use CC6 to switch velocity Xfade on/off: but which controller do you use - i.e. which midi instructions you enter in the score - to control the velocity Xfader (slider) for crescendos and diminuendos: as far as I know in Sibelius it's not possible to use continuous controllers?

Try using a modified version of the cresc/dim plugin.

But what do you mean when you speak of a "modified version" of crescendo/diminuendo plugin? You mean the crescendo/diminuendo plugin that uses CC7 (volume) or CC11 (expression) instead of velocity note/on for hairpins?
Unfortunately, that plugin doesn't allow for undos!

Yes you can edit the plugin and change the instruction to use CC7 to whatever you want. Do check in the sibelius tech chat page where this was discussed and there is continuing discussion about saving multiple copies of the cresc/dim plugin so you can use it as many times as you want for different xfade functions.

I should make clear that I am not also using any other hardware midi controller like a midi keyboard. I am simply using Sibelius and the VI (via V-stack and maple midi cable).
