  • more on custom presets and matrices

Hey all, thought I'd check in to ask a few things:

Has anyone (really a rhetorical question) come up with some presets or matrices that they find really useful?

Also, anyone else out there just using the standard library? Anyone who has started on standard library and moved to extended? I haven't played with the extended library too much since I have a limited number of starts, and I'm seeing what I would get if I upgraded...just looking for any thoughts anyone might have on comparing the two tiers of this library/instrument.

  • Be nice is there was a central database set up for registered users where matrixes can be shared.

    Rob

  • that's a great idea...it would be nice! For the meantime, though, having those midi files and matrices on the site (by the geniuses how are mastering this library/instrument) have been really cool.

  • it's on its way ... should be online beginning or mid may.

    - filenames should be *webserver-ready* (no spaces, only ASCII characters) and selfexplaining (best would be following the VSL nomenklatur)
    - the file can get a description (255 characters, extended characterset allowed)
    - a more detailed text should be added (what, how, why, ect)
    - the applying collection has to be assigned (and standard or extended)
    - you can only upload and download files for products you have registered ...

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • A couple settings that I use frequently (keeping in mind that the only set I have is Strings I)

2x2 matrix, V is modwheel (50/50) and H is speed (marker at 60-70% depending on the song)
    Perf-Legato Perf-Trills
    Perf-Legato-Sul Perf-Trills

I've found this useful for alot of the more legato patches. At the highest volume layer, the Sul violins seem to sound too close to full portamento, so I switch to the legato. But the Sul sounds great in the lower-mid register for most passages.

1x2 matrix - V is, again, the modwheel
    Perf-Marcato-fa
    Perf-Rep-Staccatto

This one has worked well for faster "action" lines.

I'm still learning, so those are the only two that I have thus far. I'm working on figuring out a good way to work some dynamic patches in, probably via keyswitches, so I can use them in performance more easily. Still working out the details though.

    Hi Josh
I've createt Basic-Presets. "Basic-Preset" means that you can change instruments like you want to do it, because all the presets have the same structure. Unfortunately they also include articulations from the extended library. But perhaps you will get an idea for creating your own organisation.
