  • wow, that really speeds things up here also. the first loading for me was even quicker. I'm excited there might be a solution for this question: why does it take 10-12 seconds to open the display GUI? it's really slowing things down. First, I have to double click on the track to open up the plug-in window only get a button that I have to click on to get this GUI. next, this GUI has to float over every single window. Then, it takes 12 seconds to open...every single time I want to change a patch. My workaround is to have a 2nd monitor with seperate windows open with all the display GUI buttons. The GUI opens up quickly if you leave the plug-in window open. Anyone know if this will get quicker?

    Hey thanks for taking the time to post this, I will try it tomorrow!

    I HAVE noticed that it is the FIRST time that I open VI that takes longest, every other instance loads much faster...

    First are you using the latest version of the software? If not, download it and install it. Then use Apple's Disk Utility to repair permissions. Then open Vienna Instruments Directory Manager and remove all the VI instruments that are visible in it and then add them again - making sure that you are adding them instrument folder by instrument folder (e.g. Solo violin, Solo Viola, etc. - - not the folder these folders may be inside of (e.g. not something like VI Solo String Folder). Then open Logic 7.2's Autoload file and open the Project Manager On the upper left hand side of the window undernesath the Edit and Function menus there there is a small popup menu whose default setting is Browse. Click on this and select Scan Paths. Click the "Add include path" button. This will bring up a window in which you will be able to navigate to the folders containing the VI Instruments (and any other instruments you wish to use as Audio Instruments within Logic). Navigate to the folders of each instrument and push the choose button. When you have chosen all the instruments you have in this fashion, go the Project Manager's Function menu and choose "Save Project Manager Data." Then save the Autoload file. Quit Logic. Run the License control Software which will display your licenses. Quit the License control center. Open the Logic file you want to work on. Once you have done this loading should be quite fast. On my computer, Loading the first VI instance takes 47 seconds. Loading subsequent instances takes 2-4 seconds. If at some point, you see a statement that the licenses cannot be found. Quit Logic. Use Apple's Disk Utility to Repair Permissions, and Open and then Quit License Control Center. In my experience, this gets rid of the problem. Also, I recently updated to OS 10.4.6 which, so far, seems the most stable version of Tiger since 10.4.2 and has gotten rid of the bug that caused Disk Utility ro report Permissions errors every time it was run.

    I hope this is helpful

  • hi stevesong.

    read your tips for speeding up loadtime in logic.

    i did all in "your" way, but loading a logic song with 9 VI instances - but -

    logic needs about 7 minutes to load ...

    i have no further idea after long time experience ...

    sad.

    Hi all,

    the time period until the 1st Vienna Instrument shows up depends on how many products are installed and have to be scanned:

    * only Solo Strings installed:
    1st start of VI -> appr.20 seconds
    every other instance -> 3 to 6 seconds

    * Solo Strings, Chamber Strings, Orchestral Strings 1 and Woodwinds 1 installed:
    1st start of VI -> 50 to 60 seconds
    every other instance -> 4 to 8 seconds

    In case that the scanning of the licenses seems to take for too long I suggest to go to the Vienna Instruments Directory Manager, remove all folders and add them again.

    Best,

    Maya

  • to clarify: when I already have a session setup...I've already waited thru the loading phases...and i'm working on a track. Every single time I double click on an already instantiated plug-in...it first shows the "Display GUI" window. Every single time I click on the display GUI button....it take 12.5 seconds to just display the GUI. Two questions Maye. 1. is this normal? 2. can this be fixed

  • I am not experience those wait times for the Gui to appear. It happens rather quickly. Sorry I can be of no help, but I would say your experience should not be considered normal, there must be some way to adjust this. Sadly, I have no idea how.

    What software? VI? System software?

    I did the entire proceedure you described, because tonight, VSL just stopped loading entirely. Had to FORCE QUIT Logic.

    I repaired permissions, I've restarted, I've rebuilt the library, adding everything all over again, I've used Project Manager to scan the folders, etc. I'm getting a beach ball. This is not good. I'm using system 10.4.3.

    Any help appreciated, I need to get some work done. All other plugs are working....except VI.

    Hi Tom,

    which version of the VI are you using? You find the latest version here.

    Also, which version of the Syncrosoft LCC are you using?

    You mean your used the Directory Manager (not Project Manager..) to assign the VI data folders, right?

    Could it be that you accidentally overloaded the VI before it stopped loading?

    Thanks for the answers, I´m sure we can make it work!

    Best,

  • Thanks Paul. Installing the latest version solved it. It is strange though, because it WAS working, then stopped.

    Anyway, working now, thanks!

  • One more suggestion: so far (about a week), I've found OS 10.4.6 to be the most stable version of OS 10.4 since 10.4.2. It also seems (subjectively) faster than earlier versions. Another nice thing, the bug in Disk Utility - -that caused it to show a long, but spurious, list of repaired permissions every time you repaired permissions - - has been fixed. If you decide to install this update, just remember to unmount, turn off and disconnect all Firewire drives that might be connected to your computer before commencing the update. (This is recommended by Apple - - according to many reports, keeping Firewire drives on and connected during a OS update can result in numerous problems.)

    Maya, you must have one fast hard drive - at present I have only the VI Solo String Library, but the fastest I can load - in Logic 7.2 - the first instance of VI is 47 seconds. Subsequent openings are 2-4 seconds. Samples are stored on a two drive SATA II RAID 0 array, Sample loading is usually very fast.
