  • A Testament to Vienna Instruments

I got my VI package in the mail today (sadly, all I can currently afford is the Orchestral Strings I package). After only a few hours of playing around with the program, getting it set up, etc, I was able to whip together the following:

    http://www.drilsej.com/Orch.mp3

It's a (very) simple ~30-second song: Violin I, Violin II, and Violas. The parts are hand-played and have not been touched up (you are listening, essentially, to three live-recorded tracks).

The fact that I could get something that sounds so authentic to me absolutely astounds me. The fact that it was so very easy is even more astounding.

Excellent work! Especially impressive is the Vienna Instruments interface. Being a computer programmer by day (and rogue composer by night?), I can appreciate the crazy amount of work that was put into the interface...especially if it was really coded by one man, as the manual suggests.

Great job! I hope to acquire more libraries soon [:)]

    Thanks,

    Josh

  • Drillan--- Congratulations on getting VI. It really is a wonderful tool, and it can be a very immersively creative thing to work with.

The mere sound of it is outstanding.

Thanks. But it wasn't just one man - click on VI icon and watch the credits.

  • VSL - The best samples ever created, pleyed by the best sample player ever created

  • Sounds good Drillian. Now take that same sequence and add the controller for vel XF - you'll be amazed. If you have the patience of Jay - try out all the dyn patches. Pretty amazing library.

  • On the "one programmer thing": I stand corrected! In that case, great job everyone [[:)]]

Yeah, I think the biggest learning curve for me is going to be figuring out what the heck all of the terminology means. Besides having taken piano lessons (many moons ago), I haven't had any formal training, so alot of the terminology is unfamiliar to me.

What does the controller for vel XF do, if I may ask? (note that I'm not near my music PC, otherwise I'd just test it myself)

Thanks for the feedback! Now I need to figure out which library to save up for next [[:)]] .... are there payment plans? [:D]

  • Drillian,

In the control section of the VI you can assign a mod wheel or foot pedal to the 'velocity cross fade' (review the documentation included in your package and watch this video from Paul). It will show you how to do this - very straight forward.

    Hope that helps.
