Hey Dave,
thanks for the dongle suggestion, but trust me-- the Vienna Key has made the rounds to just about every available USB port I have-- front and back of my G5. I even tried the back of my monitor to the same results.
It's a strange thing with Mac and DP in general. Athough it happens less now than it once did, sometimes in OSX things just don't work at first for no reason. You reboot, fix permissions, you get up the next day and try again-- still nothing.
Then all of a sudden one day it just happens.
I've even noticed that some of the aliases in the Dock just stop working and have to be replaced, regardless of whether permissions were repaired or directories rebuilt.
But one of these days, I'd like to finish my self designed tutorials with VI. I was working on the Barber Adagio for a while, but I got lost in a sea of legatos, whose variants began to number by the dozens. There are limitations to how many gradations of legato one can get out of this thing. it got fatiguing, so I starting in on an excerpt from the opera Salome by R. Strauss. It's not the 'Dance', but the final scene when the orchestra has that wonderful polytonal explosion. Again, I'm stumped by the extended ranges of the violin and cello, which means that I cannot compete the exercise. My cellos are only playing as high as D5, but Strauss' parts have them going a half octave higher in places.
But at least for the moment, I'm going to head out to find a six-pack of a good beer, the biggest prime steaks I can find and a good DVD I've not seen.
Tomorrow is another day.
And another month....
