  • Cell volume automation

I'm assuming that you can't automate the volume of a cell by use of a controller. It would be handy to be able to do this. Let me explain:

I have the Vl-14_perf-legato patch set up in the top cell and Vl-6_sus_Vib-espr_fA_auto patch in the lower cell. The relative volumes are about 78 and 42 respectively.

When I need more "oomph" at the top of the phrase I keyswitch to this patch and it just adds a bit more appassionato sound. However it would be nice to be able to bring up the Vib patch more gently by setting the volume for the lower cell to a controller. However, I can see that currently the setting would be global, so all patches would be affected, not just the one that I want to affect.

Obviously I could just put another MIDI track in, but that is what I'm trying to avoid.

Any suggestions with the current VI software, and if not could you consider a solution for the future?

    DG

  • Here, here, DG. I've often set cell volumes to fit in a particular matrix because out of the box the patches are not always "created equal". What barks at you in one moment indeed needs to be tamed in another.

I've put the same patch in a different cell instead of a different console. I noticed this technique was used in some of the factory matrices where there were three or more of the same patch loaded into different cells.

But I agree that some of this can be facilitated by being able to automate more of the parameters at the cell level.

On a side note, I still hope for the flexibility to have MIDI velecity active while using X-fade. So much of what is convincing just has to be played, and stopping to turn the X-fade on an off seems to defeat some crucial musical purposes and intents. I'm not getting exactly what I need by post-facto controller editing alone.
