  • Hello Bruce,

Thank you very much for your help.
I'm sorry to say that the environment cannot be loaded into Logic Express.
Probably because it lacks the features we need.
Logic Express is a waste of 332 euros for me!

    Greetings,

    Gerard Beljon

  • Hello,

Can anybody from VSL please shed some light on this?

  • Dear Gerard,

Logic Express is indeed perfectly suitable for hosting our Vienna Instruments as Audio Units and I assumed that your local dealer, upon recommending the application for your purposes in the first place, would eventually support you with setting up Logic Express in order to fit your particular situation. In fact, it´s quite simple:

Please open the Environment window, either using the main "Window" menu or the (default-)keycommand Command-(aka Apple-)8, and create a "Channel Splitter" next to your Audio Instruments, then draw cables to 16 of your Audio Instrument channels, which have our Vienna Instruments instanciated.

If you are using the IAC bus, please also create a "Physical Input" along with f.i. a "MIDI Monitor" and route the IAC bus to the Monitor in order to avoid MIDI loops.

If you want to, we could send you a screenshot of how this should look like!

    Best, Marnix

PS: If you want to import an environment into Logic, please use the "import layer" function in the "Options" menu of your Environment window - I just tested this in Logic Express from a Logic Pro 7.1 song without problems!

  • Marnix,

As a follow on to this,

is it possible to have Logic on three machines (pro as master with Expresss as slaves on each of the other two), with the intention of operating the slaves in sync from the master? I suppose you could call it 'super nodes?'

I'm thinking of the opportunity, if this would work, to manage everything from the master, with the slaves as 'extra tracks', and of course, EXS usable, along with VI.
(Nodes don't support EXS on slaves at this time, yes?)

Have you tried anything like this?

    Regards,

    Alex.

  • Hello Marnix,

The problem remains: Logic Express sums all hardware midi in-ports (in my case 9 ports) together. you cannot adress individual midi in ports at the physical Midi input object in the environment. This functionality is implemented in Logic Pro, but seems to be absent in Logic Express.

I hope you understand my problem.

    Greetings,

    Gerard Beljon

  • Gerard,

The "Physical Input" can´t (this is just to neutralize the IAC bus in order to avoid MIDI loops!), but the "Channel Splitter" actually does handle individual MIDI in ports!

I will send you a screenshot, if you want to.

As far as I know, the implementation of the Environment itself is identical in Logic Express and Logic Pro...

    Best, Marnix

  • Alex,

Although we never actually tested a similar set-up, I do not see a reason why this should not work...

I will try to investigate some more and will keep you posted!

    Best, Marnix

  • Hello Marnix,

Yes, please send me a screenshot.
    Thank you.

    Gerard Beljon

  • Gerard,

[:O]ops: Sorry, of course it´s the Physical Input which handles the MIDI ports!

I will send you the screenshot!

  • Hello Marnix,

I sent you 3 e-mails today about Logic Express. They were not answered.
Is there again a problem with my e-mail adress?

    Greetings,

    Gerard

  • sorry,

i really dont understand why you would try t o use logic on a second mac.
in this case you would have to sync both machines an to arrange on both machines.

why dont u just use a AU Host?

i dont know if there are any for mac but there are at least 2 for PC which are cheaper too.

  • Hello Gagga,

I use Plogue Bidule now, which seems to work fine, so I'm allright now.
I wanted Logic Express as a host, but it will never work, because Apple confirmed that only one port can be used.
Using Logic on a second Mac would cost me Logic Pro again, quite a lot of money.

    Greetings,

    Gerard
