  • Vienna Key: a simple question, a (I hope) clear answer

Maybe the question has already been asked, anyway I'd like to know if it's possible to run the same VI Collection - of course not simultaneously, but each Collection at a time - on two PCs using the same Vienna key.
If this is not possible, I am obliged to purchase another copy of the same VI Collection and consequently another license to run it on the second PC?
    Thanks
    Leo

  • leo, if i understand you correctly the question is if you can install a collection on 2 PCs, but use it just on tthat one where you plug in your ViennaKey with the respective license - yes.
it is similar to cubase and logic - the computer which has the ViennaKey attached can start the ViennaInstrument, the one which has not, not
    christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Christian, you understood the question correctly and the answer was absolutely clear.
    Thank you.

  • Hello,
Yes it's clear but it's also very clear to understand that we don't need to use two Cubase or Logic for playing things like Ravel's strings quatuor. But to reproduce it with the size of Vsl samples on one computer, I think it's not possible without to bounce.

So what is the price to have the possibility to play the same sounds/library on two computers.?Is the policity of VSL allways the same: Never buy two same samples?
But I think (hope) that Vsl have solution for this kind of problem because before the possibility to buy the same samples for another sampler's format ( Kontakt, Exs,Gs3...)was proposed for 10%

Not sure in understand this, or the intent of the question.

It's already been said a volume can be installed on a machine with another volume on a new machine. Ther largest volume according to Herb is the solo strings at 65GB.
I ensemble strings volume has 2 strings sections, the second volume has the others. Each volume has a license. you can put multiple licenses on one key on the active machine where the samples are stored.
If you are asking if you can install volume one on more than one machine, the answer's yes. But you can only use a volume live with a key on one machine at a time. e.g. Box one contains volume 1, with a key.
Box two contains volume one without a key.
The one with the key works.
There is only one license for each volume, so one key, one box, one at a time.
You can store as many volumes on each box as you wish, with the licenses stored in one dongle for convenience sake. e.g. Box one contains Volumes 1 to 5. One key, five licenses.
Herb has already made it clear you can open multiple instances of the same volume on the 'Key Active Box.' E.g Box one, volume one, instruments Violin.
    Track one(open VI)=Violin. Track two(open new VI)=violin.

This is all clearly explained on the relavent webpage, and in numerous pre release discussions here, including FAQ, user questions, and the hardware test thread.

And again, given the largest volume is 65GB, and it's only DAW/sampler software limitations, Ram limitations and CPU% usage that present possible restrictions, you can open as many 1st violin VI's as you want from the 'key active volume' within your hardware capabilites.
You've made the assumption that one box will not do for one volume. Given the multiarticulate capabilites of the VI, the reduced number of tracks needed, and the possibility to open a new track with the same instrument, i fail to understand why you'd need to have two licenses for the one volume, with the second licence at a reduced rate for 'never paying for the same samples twice.'

    Unless.........

  • Unless, following on,you have a unique reason for needing two licenses, in which case it would be a good idea to send an email to the VSL support team.

    Good Luck,

    Alex.

  • Hello,
Thanks for your answer but perhaps my english is too poor and you feel perhaps my remark as an agression?
So to be really clear, I try again: for example I take a metaphore between a composition and a travel:
What I have is a car (computer A) and a tow (computerB) and a lot of wishes to travel everywhere without to reseve all in advance just to be free... so perhaps for my next composition/travel , I'll take as usual
my car with a medium-large place(Cubase): inside I put some shoes (Stylus rmx=700Mb), some jeans(=plugin), some intim stuff (kontakt 2 with own sample and plugin), some sport material (Vi solo strings)

In my tow (=computer B) I have my usual bicycle (gigastudio with ethno world, sam solo,...) and so on...
and suddenly I want to take some more sport material ( vi string solo ) but not enough space in the car or perhaps limitation of height due to the law in rigour in my car but enough space in my tow...So my question is: what must I do?
I just recieved my solo strings so I don't know for the moment how much place it takes in ram, so I anticipate the problem or perhaps it's not a problem..But when I want to go to travel and that it's time to go, I don't want to have preocupations.
    Best regards
