  • Help..Boy Am I Dumb..

OK, I use the Mac mostly and have the PC just to run VSL...so I'm still learning the PC.

I cannot figure out how to play the demo files for VI that were recently uploaded. They are VST ...I think...file types and the presets in VI all say DAT files.

I can't get VI to find the demo files I've downloaded. I'm using FORTE to load VSTs (VI).

Any help on how to load these, and where to put them, would be appreciated..

    Thanks
    Tom

  • Hi Tom,
When you insert the VI as a VST make sure to open the panel (in Sonar you check a box). In the VI panel you can load the preset by browsing your files. You can have the preset file anywhere this way.

  • I can't see any way, upon choosing PRESET SELECT in VI, to navigate. It shows you the list VI installed so apparently it has to be in there.

Right now something must be wrong with the CD I have the demo burned on. I try to copy the file over to the PC drive where all the other patches are and it says "File can't be copied, make sure it isn't locked" or something like that.

I sure hope they get RTAS going for the Mac[;)]

Right click, Properties, un-check "Read only".

  • hmmm, to copy a file it can be read-only (no problem, all files on CDs are read-only) .... it is locked, if an application has a file-handle on it (and so the system cannot even read it properly for copying).
please make sure the respective files are not open in any program

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • No, not preset select. Go up to the top of the panel to the pull down menus and select load preset. This is not one of the buttons on the panel.

  • Well, I can't find any pull down menus. Maybe Forte is doing something to VI and losing menus or something. I see in the manual that there is supposed to be a FILE and OPTIONS menu, which is not showing.

  • I'm not in front of VI so I can't remember for sure but I seem to remember 3 dark rectangular areas on the upper left hand side of the VI VST plugin panel. Click in there and I think you get a menu. I will double check for you in 5 or 6 hours when I get back to the computer if you are still having trouble.

  • Thanks, because there are no menus that I can find....

    Tom

  • Yes, in Sonar you open the VI VST panel and at the top left hand side you'll see an empty pull down window that says Presets. Just below that is 3 dark smaller rectangles, first labeled "VST" the second one is labeled "Preset Options" this is the one you want. Click on it and a menu appears with one saying "Load Preset" from here you can load the preset file from the desktop or anywhere.

    Hope this helps.

  • This menu is not appearing in FORTE. I opened the standalone VI and I see that there is a FILE and OPTIONS menu, which offers LOAD and SAVE PRESETS. These menus are not appearing in FORTE and I'm going to write their tech support about it. I was wondering why I couldn't save a preset.

    Geez.
