  • The WindowsXP GDI bug

    VSL et al

Having started loading up more than 3 VIs on my PC I'm getting the GDI error message and the VI window doesn't get drawn.

This to me seems either i) a bug or ii) dodgy UI programming (no offence intended)

Normally I can run many many VSTs and have all their control windows open, so I think the answer is ii). However I can only ever view a maximum of 3 VIs. Although I can happily view other VSTs.

To illustrate (I'm using SX3, WinXP with a NVIDIA 256MB 6800). Add 5 VIs in the VST instrument panel.

Open up three VIs - no problems.
Open up a forth - GDI error message.
Close one of the three and re-open the forth - Works fine.
Open another (so we have 4 VIs) - GDI message
Add another VST, e.g. Virtual Guitarist, Stylus RMX - interfaces all appear fine. No GDI issues here.

So it looks like its the way the interface has been developed, perhaps the others don't use GDI?

How many others are having this problem? And are VSL able to investigate it and fix it?

    Cheers

  • As far as I know this is no bug, because opening more than three GUIs could cause too extensive CPU useage. Therefor this limitation was built in.

  • Thanks Herb - makes sense. Perhaps a more user friendly prompt in the window might make it sound less painful than "you've run out of GDI resources". [[;)]]
