Voxengo's "PristineSpace" would be a nice (although commercial) alternative. HTH,
I second that opinion. I use the whole voxengo convolution package.
I also have the problem, that public IRs from orchestral sites are rare.
Until I know what MIR brings for wonder, I stick with PS and design the rooms with the Impulse modeler that is included in the bundle.
I can design artificial rooms, with walls, reflection etc (any real or unreal size and flavor) and IM will render the Impulse response. Given the price, it is better than renting the Frankfurt Alte Oper and making the IR for every position by yourself.
Problem is indeed positioning: But, Since PS has eight(!) channels per instance, I generate the same room in IM with different Mic positions and link them as IR in the sort of multiple master channel for the instruments (in GS). After that, I run it through the Voxengo EQ.
Yes, it eats up computer ressources, but it is IR, at the end. It is much more moderate than the others and I am enthusiastic about Alexanders plug ins audio quality, which are a gem by itself IMHO. Everything is available as demo, so you can try it anyway. It is worth every penny.
I am also eyeballing MAC with APA and the wave IR plus QClone running on it , but you guess, MIR needs to be looked at first.
Too old for Rock n Roll. Too young for 9th symphonies. Wagner Lover, IRCAM Alumni. Double Bass player starting in low Es. I am where noise is music.
