It seems to me that the 'limiting factor' is more likely to be the RAM on board of each slave than the HDD installed. Bearing in mind that VSL has reduced the total amount of HDD-space for the 550GB Samples to something around 350GB it seems to me the fact much more important how much Samples should be loaded at once.
2GB and even 3 GB-RAM for instance seem to be not very much for a PC with nothing but the SOLO strings or nothing but Woodwinds or nothing but Chamberstrings installed, if you want to do a Stringquartett, a full woodwind section or a full chamberstringpiece for instance and would like to have the L2 Presets for all used Instruments (2 Violins, Viola and Cello or FL, Ob, Kl, Bas Solo+Ens or the Chamberversions of Vl,Vla, Vc, B) loaded át the same time on one Slave for Stringquartett or another for Woodwinds or another Chamberstrings .
Meanwhile you need for each of them only less than 60 GB HDD-Space - what you can get from nearly each HDD already installed - the used RAM for a full L2-Preset Stringquartett sums up to 3,8 GB. So even 4 GB RAM would not be enough since 3-400MB are occupied by the System and Host. The L2 Presets of the full Woodwinds demand over 3GB and the Chamberstrings L2 Presets still sum up to over 2GB.
I know that one can optimize RAM Usage wich is a awesome feature compared to a GS3 Setup, I know that the setting with the full L2-Presets of the Solostrings is an extreme example of course it still would be nice to start working from that kind of setup since it would allow to benefit the most of the flexibility of the new VI-engine.
Since PC-Mainboards support today often 3 GB sometimes even 4 GB RAM I am quite interested for PC-setup if there are any experiences for working with more than 2 or 3 GB Ram in one VI slave.
