  • Good to hear, Drew. If you really need the same machine for internet-activity, I would consider a dual-boot setup - one for musical work, one for "ordinary" tasks.

    All the best,

  • Drew:
More info please. Is this Norton software?
Did you just disable or remove completely?

Dietz - I hear you about the dual boot setup. That's a bit of a hassle though - save everything, close down Logic, reboot the whole machine, just to check e-mail while you take a break. [:(]

Is this conflict something that can be fixed at VSL.....?

    Regards - Colin

  • musos, it seems you are on a mac whereas drew is on a pc and somehow networked (zone labs is the type of personal firewall which blocks even local TCP calls), so his problem should not apply to your setup.
can't comment on current norton versions, but some of my grey hair originates from their %&#*§ internet security application .... and i have to add *on windows*
mac users have definately (still) the advantage when it comes to internet on an audio station ...

  • Thanks for clearing that up Christian.
I still use Norton AntiVirus and Firewall but have now stopped using all the disk repair stuff since OS10.4.x
You can't really live without a firewall....though it's obviously no guarantee.

  • I completely removed it. So am without firewall, anti-virus, privacy blocking et al at the moment. Feeling naked.

But Zonelabs has become a terribly unstable product of late. Although I had background anti-virus on, doing a scheduled anti-irus sweep causes lots of people machines to crash.

if of any interest ... my personal favourites currently are Anti-Vir and Kaspersky both are adding not too much load and processes to a system.
even the windows buildt in firewall (XP SP2) is working properly.
of course in my opinion the best AV-software is ... common sense

  • And...if anyone absolutely need to use any antivirus package on the same computer as your sampler definitely make sure you disable on-read scan or every disk read will be scanned -> total performance disaster.
