  • VI with old songs...

    Hi

I've the Horizon Solo String Original.

I want buy the New Solo Strings Extended, but with the VI Plug in, can I open my old songs (created with the Performance Tool in EXS24MKII) and delete the 30 Go Folder with his old samples ????

  • Hi Didick,

I wouldn´t delete the "old" folders, if you want to open the songs you made with the Solo Strings Horizon Series.

The Vienna Instruments work in a different way and you´ll find out very soon, that they will improve both the expression and speed of your composition.

If you want to play back a certain piece, it will take a while to reprogram all the MIDI channels to different keyswitches - it can be done, but I don´t know, if it´s really worth the trouble. Also depends on the complexity of your arrangements, of course...

    Hope that helps.

  • OK. I keep my old samples folder so.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Didick,

if you create your own matrices with VI to resemble the GS instruments, you can quickly adapt your old pieces to VI, and then work from there to integrate new articulations ... I've done that, and even if you don't change anything it will sound better in my opinion.

  • David,
    That's really the big answer!!
I've been wondering what to do about all the hard drives from Pro Edition and now the VI's but it seems that the way to go is possibly to create all of one's own personal matrices so that songs can "update" to VI (and eventually do away with the old drives and samples).

I tended to have similar setups and use of instruments in many of my jobs so fixing one (ie creating a new matrix) should apply equally well to other songs too.

Suggestion: When we do get a user upload area here at VSL, perhaps there could be a section for matrices that "imitate" ProEd setups.

    Thanks and regards
    Colin

  • Hi Musos,

I´ve seen so many different ways to work with the Pro Edition, I wouldn´t know where to start an "imitation". But if you always worked the same way with each instrument, you can imitate your own setups for each instrument. Please bear in mind that the Vienna Instruments give you a lot more articulations and features, that could be incorporated in existing songs!

For me, it helped a lot to start new compositions with the Vienna Instruments to get a grip on the different approach that´s now possible.
