i have the samwe problems here.
i have a regular intel p4 3200mhz a fresh installed xp without any "tweaks".
th VI´s are crashing V-Stack if the ram is getting full but also Cubase.

So, there must be a bug in the VI´s

They will crash if you load too much. How much are you trying to load into how much memory?

DO you think that having a preset configuration from gigastudio could be the problem of my limitations for loading VI ?

Yes, you should be using Windows default. Look at the thread that Mattias started.

Of course it is. You won't get more than 1.75Gb without the 3Gig switch installed.

Am I not being clear? IMO it's crashing because the preset is too large for the available memory.

  • i dont know if you are beeing clear

    [:)]

but it should definetly not crash, for example like gigastudio is not crashing if it gets to the ram limit.

I dont want to be aible to use more memory i just dont want it to crash. The numbers are out of my head it could be also 800mb before loading the last patch and than its crashing. this is not acceptable espacially because the song was not ussable after the emergency save.

Ah now I understand, sorry for being so slow!!! You want the player to stop you loading something that is too big for your available memory. I agree that this should work like this, and I can't see a problem with VI working like this (should it be coded to do so), but if you are loading in V-Stack then I would imagine that this would need to be coded into this application, as AFAIK VI can't know how much memory your Host needs to run without crashing.

  • no! the VSTi´s know how much memory is available and V-Stack is not crashing in with other VSTi.

OK, then I can't help except to say keep an eye on Task manager as you load. Sorry...... [:(]

Are you making a straight comparison?
Other VSTi's? Examples? Do they just keep loading in V stack without notification of impending memory shortage? Is the limitation of Giga set to stop you loading anymore than your system can handle? Does this work even when you use VStack into something else like Logic/Cubase? Does Logic send a message to VStack to say 'Stop. I can't take anymore!', with other VSTi's?

If you can give more info, it would be helpful.... [:)]

    Regards,

    Alex.

I think that with some VSTi they just don't load when there is not enough memory. Giga tells you to "stuff it"..... [:D]

Hehe, so Giga has a look first and decides if it's worth trying or not. It sounds like being married!
I wonder why VStack doesn't do the same with the VI? [*-)]
