    There is some program that is launched on startup on my PC that makes the VI library dvd's unreadable. When I turn off all startup programs using msconfig I can read the disks. Does anyone have a clue what type of program would make reading the DVD's impossible?

    Also noticing that my DVD read only player is more than 2x as fast when installing the VI library content as my DVD read/write player. Be sure to install from your fastest player.

    Hi Jay,

    do you have an antivirus program installed? Which programs do you have on your startup?

    Oh, and of course a faster DVD drive is faster in installation [;)]

    Even though I'm on a Mac with drives in perfect working order and have no anti-virus utilities running during installation, I have gotten the warning that disc 2 of the Solo Strings was "unreadable".

    I am currently on my second attempt to install this volume, but I'd be curious to hear other causes for this particular warning to appear.

    Do you have the opportunity to check the DVD on another drive or even another computer, in order to cancel out hardware damages?

    Yes. The first thing I tried was to load the DVD into my laptop. Everything appeared to be normal, although I did not attenpt to install VI on my laptop. Disc 2 of solo strings didn't have the installer or the package info, so installation would have been impossible.

    But, I have installed other software on my computer since trying Solo Strings. Because I wasn't planning to use Solo Strings for another day or two, I decided that I wanted to dig into VI a little more with the other sounds which are installed already just to keep my spirits up. [:)]

    My guess is that it's the Syncrosoft authorization, which is very delicate. I may have to disconnect all my peripherals and plug the Vienna Key directly into my computer, which was the only way I could get it to work before. I never thought each installation would require this routine each time.

    As far as Mac installation, after loading disk 1 you must manually change the number in the prompt to disk 2 or it won't install. So you simple change the number 1 to 2 (in the prompt dialogue)

    Actually, I had already installed Chamber Strings and Orchestral Strings, so the routine was quite clear. I had gotten through Disc 1 of Solo Strings, and when prompted to change discs, I did so. It was after I'd manually inserted disc 2 that it gave me the warning. I am certain that I installed the right disc because I've done this a few times already to the same result. As mentioned, I checked the disk on my laptop's drive, confirming it was indeed disc 2 and not discs 1, 3 or 4. It mounted normally, so it remains a bit of a mystery.

    This weekend, I'll run DiskWarrior and repair permissions before trying again, disconnecting all USB peripherals and keys excpet for the Vienna Key, mouse and computer keyboard

    There have just been a number of silly misfires with this install process. One thought was that the key is a bit wonky. I've checked all the USB ports themselves -- printer, scanner, and other USB devices and keys (EXSKey and iLok) all work without a problem in each port.

    Someone reminded me today that two planets went retrograde this week--!! I'm not much for astrology, but at this point any explanation could be quite acceptable. [[;)]]

    this issue is solved with library installer 1.03 - sorry, we had to put the 1.01 version online very fast and overlooked this bug.
    the new version will come along with all newer shipments on a new installer CD

    I've bee using 1.03 for all installations, FWIW..

    But, Solo Strings finally installed okay-- I think.

    I have two instances of VI loaded, both sharing a PERF_legato patch. Controller data on one MIDI channel was effecting the patch on the other MIDI channel. This needs to be explored further, but it's not an insurmountable problem at this time.
