  • I have completely un-installed the protection device, its drivers and and the VI software. I have cleaned the registry.

I have re-installed everything in the correct sequence. Syncsoft > VI.
    I hre-run the directory manager.

    No joy.

In neither VST or standalone can it find any licences.
Mt cubase still starts .. so the protection device and cubases licences are intact.
The VI licences still apear in the dongle.

    VI starts up.
But whilst its takes only about a minute to start-up ... the biege splash screen "loading, please wait" does not make an appearance. For the few hours it was working yesterday, this splash screen was quite persistent, in terms of sitting on top of any other windows opened or moved over it. Its absence is a clear signal to me that something about start is different now.

This has been the case for almost 2 hours now. Its getting a bit boring now, re-installing and re-booting.

Can I start the whole registration process again, and perhaps get new licences ?

  • I have noticed that when ever I startup a standalone version of VI, after shutting it down, it leaves vsldaemon running. If I start it up again, a second instance starts ... and so on.

I noticed this because at one point I had 6 instances of vsldaemon.

    SYNSOPOS is also running.

  • sod it, I'm going to bed.
Hope there is a solution in the morning.

Pls hold on. what you describe should never ever happen. we try to find out why this _can_ happen.

    Thanks

  • Okay waiting eagerly.

    - I still think the absence of the "loading" splash screen is a clue.

What I most fear is that the last crash has corrupted my Windows installation, and that Windows is not shutting down the vsldaemon process properly (or indeed starting it up properly.)

I really don't want to spend the weekend re-building my PC, with all the inherent hassle of re-registering / re-authorising all my music software.

  • drew,

can it be you have a nifty firewall installed?

    daemon uses TCPport number 6179.

Pls make sure that nothing interferes this port.

    this should fix your problem.

    thanks

  • This may or may not be of help as I'm on a mac not a PC, but i had similar problems just after I got up and running. My computer froze and I had to restart while VI had been running. Following the restart VI didn't recognize my files, despite having relinked them in the Directory.

I restarted several times and eventually it all started to work, but not before I had moved my VI Key to a new USB port so that it would recognize the Key. I had been using one directly into the tower, but it still didn't like it, and this caused the program in standalone not to flash up the "scanning licenses" or following this, the "loading please wait".

I now have a powered USB hub holding both my Logic Dongle and my VI key and things seem to be running very smoothly.

As I said, this may or may not be of help, but I hope it is. If nothing else, it's a small show of understanding.... [[;)]]

    Hope you get things sorted.

  • Thanks for the suggestions.

I have the Zonelabs suite of security products installed.
My PC connects view a USB wireless link to a generic router/adsl/firewall box.

My dongle, sits on a non-powered USB2 hub ... but my Steinberg / Yellow Tools dongles have worked fine off this for years.

I will try uninstalling Zonelabs .... but it doesn't seem to explain why it worked for 24 hours, and then stopped.

  • Will there be technical support this evening, and through the weekend ?

  • don't worry - we're here [;)]
i'd say you don't need to uninstall your firewall (especially if your machine is connected to the internet) - just open (allow) the port golem mentioned

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • It worked !!!! Its alive !!

I uninstalled the security suite. Just read your message.
Will experiment over the weekend about re-installing and opening ports.
