  • Vi Install- Conflct

The first five volumes of VI arrived today. I was given a note that said:

    Attention Mac Users!

Please don't use the installers from the CD-ROM or DVD, but download the following files before installng your Vienna Instruments:

AU Software Installer and the Library Installer.

I found the place where the files should be downloaded, but the warning appeared in the download area which stated:
Sorry, no files available to download for your registered products

    1. I can't seem to access the installation software without having a registered product.
    2. I can't register the product without validation the Vienna Key.

So, I remove all my USB keys, install the Licensing Software from the Syncrosoft site as instructed in the Quick Start Guide. Then I inserted the Vienna Key into a powered USB slot, and nothing happens.

    Any suggestions, Please?

jwl, it seems you have registered your collections 15 minutes after this post, so the downloads should be available for you meanwhile.

your vienna key should have an active 180 starts demo license to allow an initial setup without having to add licenses first.

you might want to look at our new registration and installation videos - selfextracting flash-movies as .exe for windows and .hqx for mac - a step by step guide

the updated installers will also be available on the next version of the install CD

  • Cannot say enough good things about this vid - clearly laid out, well presented information.

Sometimes things don't always work as easily as intended. It's not the video, which is very well done and clear. It's just that there is no information available that explains what to do when error messages appear.

I'm following the video frame by frame. Here are the warnings I'm getting with the Syncrosoft License Control Center application:
    ----------------
    Sycrosoft License Control-Error
    Application 'LCCInternetTransferWizard:exclusive' has caused
    the following error

    >>Application not registered : 1

    Options:
    -Click <OK> to abort.
    -----------------

I the clicked <OK> to abort the process, and the same window came up five times after five more clicks, then it disappears.

After this, it seems that the Wizard starts up despite the warnings and this next message window appears:
    ------------------

    Syncrosfot License Control Center

    Downloading License Database...

    -------------------

    Hmm. Sounds like progress... but...

After 30 seconds, the first message window reappeared. Checking the SLCC application window where my Vienna Key once appeared, I now see the following:

    --------------------

    My Protection Devices
    ---- ? No device found

    ---------------------

Keep in mind I had already gone through the process of getting the key registered.

So, I quit the LCC application, remove the key and reinserted it, restarted the LCC application and the same process begins again.

By posting this, I'm not necessarily asking for advice. I'll eventually figure why it's not working as it should. It doesn't seem that anyone else is having this problem, so I'm sure it's my fault.

I'll keep trying to make it work, but perhaps someone else who experiences these same difficulties will not feel so alone!!

  • It might be a USB problem. Try shutting down and start again. Run the App. If not change location of USB key if not remove other keys and USB hardware and start again. That worked for me. Just have to massage it a bit.

  • Bruce is right...changng USB slots got me over the LCC error messages....

  • Thanks, Bruce and Andy:

Quitting the apps and rebooting the computer has been a major part of my routine so far.

The USB issue is indeed a delicate one, no doubt, and changing USB ports seems to only be part of the larger solution in my case. Even powered USB hubs (for those with several dongles and keys) are causing conflicts. SLCC will recognize the Vienna Key in the hub initially, but when connecting to the internet the Wizard only seems to read one level of USB connectivity-- meaning that it's seeing the hub as an 'unknown device' but not the key connected to it.

***I disconnected all USB peripherals, freeing up the ports except for the keyboard and mouse, then I plugged the Vienna Key directly into the tower itself. On first try, I got about half the authorization loaded (in the SLCC wizard 'start' window) before it quit. There is an option to resume an interrupted download, but even for the same authorization it is best to begin with a fresh download from scratch.

At least I got the five authorizations done (!!!!!), but now I wonder if I can plug my peripherals back in to have all my keys work properly from the powered USB hub. Another day begins, and so does another adventure.
