  • VI Disk Math Discrepancy

My external LaCie reports about 67 GB available in OSX / Get Info. But the 42GB "Woodwinds I" says it's not enough, that it needs 8GB more. I can find the space for it, but can anyone explain the math?

I know it's not wise to overload a sample drive, and I am pushing the limit. But numerically, I should have about 25GB to spare.

  • My OSX finder reads woodwinds 1 as under 42GB installed. It may take a while but maybe try copying 42GB of data from another source to see if the disc will take it.

Also if you have Disc Warrior it might be worth running it to clean up the disc directory.

  • Thanks, Julian. I clicked "ignore" and installed it anyway, and the resulting math was as expected. Over 25GB is now free, and yes, the installed Woodwinds I is under 42GB. So the Installer mis-represnted the available space. Maybe VI has a built-in "elbow room" feature. Or a small bug. But I'm eager to move the data onto a more spacious drive.

  • I wonder if it is something to do wih compression, aren't the .dat files in a compressed format to save space? Otherwise how could a 24 bit sample set with extra samples occupy hardly any more space than the ProEdition articulations - so I wonder if the "disc space required widget" is seeing the files as if they were uncompressed.

Probably wrong - but just a thought.
