  • When to Use Vertical Vs Horizontal Cells

Forgive me if this is a dumb question but I'm trying to get a handle on this.

I noticed in the speed control demos, it was going between to patches in the horizontal dimension automatically. But I thought to switch from a patch in one row to one in another, you had to use a keyswitch.

I suppose I'm confused about when to use a patches in the vertical, vs. horizontal dimension...?

  • Hi Tom,

    it's all up to you.
You can assign any controller of your choice to the vertical and to the horizontal dimensions.
So one matrix file uses speed on horizontal and another matrix keyswitches, of course you can add speed also to vertical dimensions.

  • tom, in one point in the tutorials, Paul said something like "you have to use keyswitches." It caught me off-guard too, until I realized he was talking about overall matrices (not cells in a matrix). X and Y axis dimensions *within* the matrix can be switched any number of ways. Hope this helps.

  • I see, thanks Herb and Plowman, it's clearer now.

    Exciting stuff!
