Hi Paul, I dissagree a little with U saying "The more RAM, the better":

Concerning the Performance of Logic, it should not make no difference, if U have 3, 4, or even 8 GB Ram.

Logic is unfortuneately only able to adress 2 GB RAM. The Rest of your Ram is just usefull, if U run other applikations. So IĀ“d say, when U only compose music and donĀ“t use any (Logic external-)standalone programs, thereĀ“s no need to buy more Ram.

IĀ“d be really happy, if I was wrong or this would change soon.

Under this aspect: WouldnĀ“t it make sense to create Vienna Instruments as a standalone programm, which could adress 2 GB Ram in adition to the 2 GB adressed by Logic?

    Best Felix.

It's open to discussion but Logic currently addresses up to between 3 and 3.5 GB of RAM. Vienna instruments are already available as a standalone app.

I have so far maxed out a Logic session with VSL plug-ins then added 2 instances of standalone VSL (by copying and renaming the app to get a second stand alone opened this totaled over 6 GB of Vienna samples alone.

If you use Logic to it's full extent you will certainly notice the difference between 3GB and 4GB on your overall system performance.

    Julian.

  • Just want to confirm what Julian has said. I've been running Logic with Logic utilizing over 3GB of RAM for more than a year.

  • Me three.

  • I use 'Rax' side by side with Logic. It's an AU virtual Rack. This allows me to access the full capacity of my 6.5GB Ram... Midi from Logic instrument to Rax via Iac Busses...

BTW. I thought that the VSL AU RAM usage was independant of Logic's own RAM. Is this not the case?

  • hi charl.

looked around for a while to get a simple AU - rack beside logic as you described.
... just downloaded the trial ...

but, how to get the audio signals in my RME digi 96 while logic is running ...

    iĀ“ll give it a try ...

    best.
