  • Sibelius 4 and VI

How can I set up the computer to work with VI and Sibelius 4 as a sequencer? I've been working with Gigastudio, Performance Tool and Sibelius as the sequenser via the VSL MIDI Router. But now I just got the VI!
Can I be content with Sibelius, and something like V-Stack to launch several VI-instruments, or do I need an extra program?
    I have nuendo.

    Hope anybody can help [:)]

  • That's a great quesiton. I'd be interested to hear an answer as well. Furthermore, another forum member "dbudde" has created some really interesting and excellent tools for the use of VSL with sibelius, which interprets articulations etc...into midi commands straight from the score in sibelius for some of the previous editions of the library. I'm very anxious to see how the new VI will affect integration and ease of use with such programs as sibelius (given the new VI engine).

  • I have tryed to start several VI-instrument with with the program "Chainer", but it didn't create new midi-channels where i could route the midi from Sibelius (Like in GS, which create GigaOut: Port 1, Port 2 etc.)

    Does V-Stack create "new" midi-channels when it's used as a stand-alone?

  • Hello Martin,

the chainer gives you 10 MIDI channels, but you have to think horizontally, if you fill up the first vertical row with Instruments, you have them stacked (as far as I can remember....)
You are right, it´s only 1 port, just as VStack, but VStack gives you 16 MIDI channels.

I've found a solution. I use MoL (MIDI over LAN), which create new MIDI-ports, where I can route the MIDI in "Playback and Input Devices" in Sibelius to the new MIDI-ports into V-Stack which can hold 16 VI-instruments (you can also use Chainer or other programs, or a combination to get more than 16 VI-instruments)

  • Thanks Martin for this.

Can you confirm what your PC specs are? and also what other software your running at the same time? I'm sure many Sib users will be interested in the finding of you early VI users. I shall be getting the solo strings VI within th next month or two.

Please keep us informed of any useful info.

Are you using Sibelius only (i.e. no keyboard) to trigger all the various controllers?

It seems that virtually everything can be triggered by keyswitching so that the sib score (or playback score) will be peppered with silent keyswitch notes.

is that how you will/are manging it?

Do let us hear any demos you create with Sib4 and the VI.

    Thanks for any feedback.
