  • Syncrosoft takes out Logic!

On Time and Spaces recommendation I downloaded and installed the Syncrosoft License Control app and as i had a bit of spare time I installed the AU version of the Vienna Instruments in advance of the DVD's which should arrive in the next day or 2.

I then came to launch Logic and a Syncrosoft warning came up, despite me clicking cancel (must be a hundred times) it wouldn't allow me to launch Logic (I think the au validation was in progress)

I eventually, after multiple attempts, got Logic to launch.

I know I haven't installed the Vienna DVD material yet and there wasn't a Syncrosoft dongle attached but I would take issue with a third party application (forced upon us!) taking control and stopping my use of the primary application with which I earn my living!

    Be warned...

  • julian, i could imagine the following happened:
installing LCC (license control center) installing the vienna instruments software (hmmm ... this shouldn't work without a ViennaKey attached) then starting logic.
now logic is detecting a new AU-plugin and is trying to validate it. part of the validation is looking for an authorization (on all available places) ... this might last extensively long and appear as if logic wouldn't respond

we noticed with several older LCC versions up to 10 minutes even with an activated ViennaKey attached

  • Christian,

I agree it is probably connected with the au authorisation as this was indeed in progress. My problem was I couldn't get the cancel option on the syncrosoft error message to engage so effectively i was locked out of Logic. I did try force quit on both Logic and AU validation but it wouldn't remove the offending syncrosoft window.

I understand the necessity for copy protection and if it secures your revenue in the long term this can only lead to better products.

From my side though it is extremely disturbing when a secondary application "takes control" from the depths of your computer and is not a good omen of things to come on the stability front. I hope it is, as you suggest, purely an intitial validation issue, but perhaps you could look at your installation software to "not allow installation and initial au validation without the prescence of a Vienna key if this is what's needed to prevent lock-up.

    Thanks

  • please tell us your detailed logic version and version of LCC to allow us a closer investigation on thid issue, although we can of course not change something in the validation method of AU ...

  • The Logic Version is 7.2 running on a G5 2.5 dual with OS 10.4.5. The version of the Syncrosoft app is 5.0.0.1 downloaded from their site today.

I will let you know how the installation of the VI's goes and if there are any latent issues from the au validation.
