    Hi all,

    I'm new to this forum alltough I've been following it every now and then without registering.

    I recenty bought a new PC and GS3 for that one the idea being to first try out and learn to use GS3 with some other sample collections I have and then maybe get the Opus bundle + maybe Epic Horns to start out with.

    Well, now I heard the news that VI will be released and I'm obviously very tempted. I mainly write bigger orchestral things to combine with rock/pop - music, so I know I'd more be using instruments in the vein of Epic Horns instead of looking for soloist perfection. I think I would have come around quite nicely with the Opus bundle offering a bit out of everything (which is what I need), but now as the opportunity to drop out GS3, which I really aren't too good friends with - and even more important the intelligent VI-interface, which is just what I have been looking for - is here, purchasing the "old" horizon libraries doesn't appear smart anymore.

    So, I want to go VI. I can definetly not afford to look into the full SC, and as a new VSL user (with no previous vsl owned) I wouldn't have any discounts to get anyway. Also the €3900 needed for the standard VI library is a BIG investment for me which would tie me to this library and vsl for years to come. Right now, I am not sure wheter I'd be needing the whole standard package either. I would do fine with something like the Opus Bundle and have Epic horns and the discussed upcoming Epic strings on top of that.

    But there isn't a lighter all-around package available for VI. Have anything like this been planned? My problem here is thatI don't know if I

    a) should just buy a few of the single VI packages (with which its still hard to achieve a bit of everything approach)

    b) make an investment and get the standard SC for €3900

    c) wait for something new to come up

    I'm not really interested in the non-VI anymore...

    I'm confused. [*-)] Sorry for the very long post and probably no-one can do the decision for me, but hints from someone on this would really help, as this would be a big investment for me as I mentioned earlier.

    ps. As someone already tried to ask a few times in the Epic String -thread, but without any luck, can somebody clarify what versions make you eligible for the update/new pack? I mean if I get VI Str I standard would I get it for free or do I need to own the Str I extended version? Or do I need both Str I and II either in standard or extended? Or is this only for users of the Orchestral Cube. Tried to study this trough but couldn't really find a final answer on it.

    Hi Rae,

    welcome to our forum!

    As you say yourself in your post, I can't take the decision off you - but maybe I can help a little.

    If you're looking for instrumental diversity at a good price, you should go for Opus - it's a very useful compilation, and since you have GS you don't have to get the sampler, too. In spite of GS' quirkiness, if you make some good templates you can use it pretty well. Moreover, for the type of music you described might be a bit overequipped with the full SC, if I'm not mistaken in what you want to achieve. Adding the VI Brass II Collection (with Epic Horns) would of course furnish you with additional power. You can run GS and VI together, and that way you could check out the VIs and decide whether you want/need additional Collections without having to spend all the money at once.

    Alas, I can't answer your Epic Strings question - I gave up looking in on that thread a while ago [[;)]]

    The discounts are for the Extended Versions of VI only. Everyone pays the same price for the Standard Edition of VI.

    For example, if you already owned Horizon Opus 1, Opus 2, and Epic Horns first-- then later wanted to by VI Orchestral Strings 1 and 2 (Extended Version) the price would be $2155 (USD) instead of $2500.

    Another example-- if you already owned the complete Pro Edition and wanted to later buy Orchestral Strings 1 and 2, the price would be $1195 instead of $2500.

    Dave's advice is wise. Getting VI or even the Pro Edition might be too much for what you want to do. You probably will find little use for the Wagnerian Tuba or many of the percussion instruments and unusual winds.

    Herb is pretty clear about who gets the strings... I beleive its for the previous investors in VSL, who felt slightly dissapointed with the VIP upgrade offered.

    Everybody who owns Pro Edition (COP, or the Strings or Performance Set) and is upgrading will get this stuff for free. Everybody who owns Pro Edition (COP, or the Strings or Performance Set) and is upgrading will get this stuff for free


    So to be elligiable you would have to be an upgrader (i.e. own the previous products, and upgrade to the new ones)

    Thanks to all of you for helping me out. I decided to go for the Opus bundle + Epic Horns and ordered them today. I really would have loved something similar in the VI-family (like a smaller all-around package), but I don't have the time to wait for something like that in case it would be released sometime in the future.

    So, I guess it's trying to get a grasp of the GS world then, even if I was hoping I could go around it, but all that belongs to the other forum, so I'll post possible future questions there.
