  • VI Universal mode

The VI Universal Mode video was unclear as to whether the Universal Mode is actually a different mode for VI or just another preset matrix. Does anyone know? Can any beta testers comment on how well this works?

  • I beleive its a preset from which you can add and substract your own stuff if you want. They simply made them so we have a good abse to work off of

  • Hi,

Universal Mode is not a different mode of VI - the Perf_Universal Matrices are preset combinations of Interval Performances (Legato, Marcato, etc.), and the patches already contain repetitions, too. Takes a fair amount of RAM, of course (especially with the strings), but you can just play away and still get a (very) convincing sound.

  • I know that Universal mode was designed to simplify live performances but I'm hoping that it will also facilitate quiker orchestrations of midi files as well. With Giga I was constantly adding note changes or control changes for almost every note of a violin part. Even with the performance tool I found it difficult to have to set up the repititions or patterns. I invested now in VI and I hope that it will save me time.

As for the use of RAM, since I'm using prerecorded midi tracks I think I can save a lot of RAM using the RAM optimizer tool to throw out all the unused patches?

UPDATE: I got the answers to this at NAMM. The answers are yes to all of the above. VI seems like a good solution to my problems.
