  • upgrades?

Is there anyway to upgrade to the new VI packages or are we just out of luck. I have Solo Strings and Mallets, but would like to switch to the Instrument versions.

    thanks.

Sure. Just try the discount calculator.
You should be aware of though, that the discounts for previous owners are biggest for the extended editions, so that's what you really should look at (check the checkboxes in the "Full Library" column). It doesn't make much sense to only go for a Standard edition of a VI, since the large discounts on the extended contents makes it possible to buy the Full library for just a little more.

    Hi Alex,

    the upgrade works like this:

You get the Standard Library for the official price (345 Euros), as everyone. That includes the Vienna Instruments and a much more efficient sample management and handling and you have all samples in 24 bit quality.

And then you upgrade to the Extended Library (which makes it a FULL Library) for 30 Euros. That gives you double the samples and you get a discount of 415 Euros, because you already have the Horizon Series Solo Strings!
Please have a look at our Discount Calculator, if you want to check further prices.

    Hope that helps.

    Best, Paul

  • So does that mean there is basically no discount for upgrading to the Standard VI of Solo Strings if you already have the Horizon Series? That doesn't seem particularly fair.

  • Looperboy - unfortunately that's just the way it is - there's thousands of posts on the subject if you have a quick search - fair or not, there is nothing that can be done.

However you do get a massive discount on the extended versions which is really what you want to be after anway.

As I've understood VSL's explanation the transition from Solo Strings to Standard VI is an upgrade in terms of workflow, but a downgrade in terms of number of articulations, and the upgrade discounts VSL promised is only for 'larger' libraries which makes the discounts not apply in this case. One can argue if this is fair or not fair since the promise maybe was perceived as more broad by a lot of users, but anyway the pricing is set for now. Since a lot of owners of Solo String probably would want the pricing of the Standard and the Extended to be more even, it could seems strange that it's so skew. I think I read somewhere that this is partly a practicality since it's apparently easier for dealers to have a unit price on the Standard.

I don't mean to bring this discussion up again. This was just a summary of my understanding of it. Please consult the numerous existing threads to learn more.

    Kind regards,
    Nils

The Extended version of Solo Strings contains loads of "new" content, and the "old" content is re-edited (see repetitions) so that it is far, far easier to use.
Forget the Standard, get the Extended for an extra £20, and you will save over £200.

I think there's plenty that can be done, by users. Great products and all that but I, for one, won't be buying any more of them for as long as that's the attitude. And I'll be recommending to my collegues in the industry- Hollywood etc- that they do the same.

    Cheers.

  • It seems a shame that you are going to miss out on VI. I think that the upgrade to Extended is a really good deal for Solo Strings owners, but obviously that's your choice.

Nobody forces you to recommend anything, but I'm sure that most people will make up their own minds, after all if the new VI has loads more content and is far easier and quicker to use then it is a no brainer.

FWIW I often feel like boycotting products because I don't like something about the Company's attitude, but in the end it's their product and they can sell and market it however they like. Do you really think that I like using Windows? It's only because Apple is even worse that I cope [:D]
