  • dongle flexibility?

Here two questions about the handling of copy protection, using the SC over a network of for instance 4-or 5 PC's:
    1) Am i right that it is only possible to assign a certain Library once to a certain dongle, so you can't run the whole SC or parts of it twice in your local network?
    2) If it is like this, I have to decide wich parts of the SC should run on which PC. But what happens, if pracctice shows me after a while, that another distribution of the librarys in my local network would be necesarry for optimal results. Is it possible to change an existing authorisation of parts of the SC to another dongle?
This seems to my necessary, because I intend to upgrade my Hardware later, which will also change the possible optimal distribution of the SC.

  • Hello Steffen,

each collection can be licensed on 1 dongle/key, and you can move this license to any other key anytime.

  • Wondering if it is possible to run a single library such as the Solo Strings on multiple computers at the same time. If so, how does one go about obtaining the extra dongles and how much will they cost?

  • This is not possible I'm afraid. Each collection can only be on one computer at a time.

Well its possible - but you would need two licences of solo strings [:)] Cheap at half the price....

I'm not so sure that we've all got the right end of the stick. I think that the licence is per instrument, not per collection. Therefore whilst you couldn't run Solo Violin on two computers at the same time, there is nothing to stop you from running Violin, Viola, Cello & Bass all on different computers.

Is this a guess or is it this way? Any official statement? Would be great (if one had all the plastic sticks necessary).

DG I'm quite sure its per collection - would be a nightmare if each instrument had to be registered. Imagine percussion.

On reflection you may be right, although I know that the Extended is unlocked per instrument [:(]

However, licensing each instrument separately wouldn't be too much of a hassle, after all that's how we currently install the samples in GS.

I also think Extended is unlocked per collection? I mean if you look at the prices here on the site, the extended version is priced per collection. Not per instrument.

There is a post somewhere form one of the VSL team (Think Paul) how mentioned that the extended instruments can be unlogged separately (bought separately) and that the calculator will be updated for that.

  • Ah ok - missed that [:)]

  • Well then we have to hope that the new format is memory and processor efficient. Currently, I have both Giga and EXS 24 licenses for the Horizon series Solo Strings - - and to have enough articulations to play back a string quartet with some realism requires Giga 2.5.4 fully loaded and 32 channels of EXS 24 instruments.

Yes, I am slightly concerned about all of that, as I usually split the Brass between 2 machines, but I'm prepared to be patient and scream when it all falls apart [:D]

    DG

  • Well the brass is two collections, and strings are 4... so it should not be a problem. (I hope [:D])

  • Unfortunately some of the instruments are split between the collections.

    DG

  • Sure, but it still allows you to run VSL's brass on two computers no?
