  • question to VSL: how many instances of VI at the same time?

    Hello,

It is still unclear to me how many instances of VI I can have open at the same time when I use it as a plug-in.
I will use a G5 quad (3 Gb Ram) for Logic and another G5 (also 3 Gb Ram) with probably V-stack especially for the SC. I heard that V-stack can only go to a maximum of 16 instances.
    Is that right?
It seems this are not enough instances to run an orchestral set-up?

When I would use it as true stand-alone only 1 instance would be possible. Am I right?

    Greetings,

    Gerard Beljon

  • Hi Gerard,

we will publish more informations regarding different systems soon.
And yes, you´re right with the standalone VI.

    Thanks for your patience.

  • Would it be possible to run the VI next to itself? (Just like one can open many windows of Internet Explorer or word or the This Computer icon)

  • Hi Wes,

right now it´s not possible, as you can only choose one Asio driver, but you can use a VST host or chainer application to adress many Vienna Instruments,

  • I also see V-Stacks 16 instances a possible problem - any thoughts on this?

  • V-stack will run on a Mac?

  • We have plugged in, e.g., the VST chainer INTO VStack, so you can increase the number of VIs like this.

VStack is available for Mac as well, more info at www.steinberg.de

  • Thanks Paul. Really looking forward to your system recommendations for the most solid (no crashes) set up for HOST and slaves using the new VI.

  • Mac users might want to think about Rax from Granted Software as an AU host.

I'm a lttle confused however as to why you simply cannot run multiple instances of the VI shell on a Mac. There should be no issues with multiple sources under Core Audio. I do it all the time.
