  • VI Performance Benchmarks

Here's the scenario: Today I run dedicated Giga workstations for VSL Pro Complete. I have no other samples installed on the VSL/Giga PC's. Next year, after installing the Symphonic Cube, I will remove VSL and GS in favor of the cube and VI. So, I've esentially converted my Giga PC's into virtual instruments. Nice.

What can I expect in terms of performance? For example, how many virtual instruments can I run? Of course this is hardware dependent and there's no single answer, but how about subjective benchmarks or performance from a baseline test machine (e.g. CPU x, RAM y, etc.)?

We Giga users know approximately the difference between running, say 2 dedicated GS computers vs. 4 and what kind of orchestrations we can run in real-time based on our hardware, but running a VST VI is only something I can imagine at this point. It would be nice to know mininum system configuration for 8 VI instances vs. 16 VI instances or what an existing Giga PC would do using VI's instead.

I suppose to simplify, will we get more performance using VI's vs. Giga using the same hardware?

  • Hi,

the answer to your last question is YES.

We are currently testing on a lot of machines to give you detailed informations, the results will be published soon.

  • I'm really looking forward to seeing those numbers published. With all of the comments from VIP's about the early bird cost, a substantial performance boost alone could make it worth the jump. A 2:1 ratio is more than we could hope for, but a 3:2 would certainly put me in the early bird nest.

If you need to test it on my home computer I would be more than willing to help out [:D][;)]

  • I'm looking forward to the VIs,but starting to think about where all the extra storage is gonna go.

Wherg or not I buy the extended instruments, I'm going to have to find 500G in total.

Can this be run off, daisy-chained external firewire drives ??

    Thanks
