    In producing MSO for E-MU, we included Overture 4 in the bundle (www.geniesoft.com). The thinking of Don Williams, CEO of Overture is parallel to the Vienna Instruments.

    In O4, you can program in the articulations of a specific VI. Then as you key in the line, O4 searches for the appropriate articulation. An excellent example is this original score by New York composer Jesse Hopkins.

    Here, Hopkins keyed in, not sequenced, the score. After keying in the score and placing the dynamics and crescendo and diminuendo symbols, Overture 4 did the rest. The results are pretty convincing. The program is available on both Mac and PC.

    The two together could be the ulimate breakthrough for both music composition AND music publishing.

    Just a thought.

    I've been watching the OV site fairly regularly.

    Am i correct in assuming the Mac version isn't out yet, and won't be out for a while?
    I'm not being disparaging, just interested in the current situation.

    Good question. I have no idea. I just checked the site before I posted and saw that it had a Mac version. FYI, this was just a mention. I get NO sales commissions for saying nice things about anyone!

    True. I use it and would not give it away anymore. I was totally surprised. At first glance, it looks like any other scoring program. But when you dive in, you can do magic. I put in "The Hamburg Concerto" from Ligeti and i did not hit any road block. Especially the MIDI playback and the possibilty to add control inside the line (not creating additional tracks) are amazing. I think that VSL and O4 would be a perfect match, too.
    Ove 3.5 is available in both versions, Ove 4 only in Windows now and MAC is supposed to be released, when the new Ove 4 is feature stable. I did Ligeti in Ove 3.5 on a MAC with GPO (oops, I gave it away) running on a separate PC. Ove 4 on a PC with Gigastudio could have made things even better.(Thats where I needed the natural Horns and the basset horn for). Ove 4 supports VST Instruments, which extends all the possibilties even more.

    I can only tell everyone to give it a try. But you have to go through the learning curve. The people at Geniesoft are wonderful people that give the software a face and support is immediate- And the price tag gives it any edge you need.
