  • What Computers were used to create Herb's Demo's ?

I had a few questions for herb: [:D]
    1. How many computers did you use for samples?
    2. What type of computers:
    a. What were the specs?
    b. What version of giga did you use?
    c. What sequencer did you use?
    d. Did you use any notation program to trigger samples?
    e. how long did it take?

    3. Did you load up all samples and play all parts off computers at same time?

    4. Did you have a big team to do the demos?

    5. Do you think that one person could make productions at the same quality?

  • 1. How many computers did you use for samples?

    Two dedicated Giga PCs

    2. What type of computers:
    a. What were the specs?

Simply normal engines, one with 1GHz cpu, the other I think with 1.5 Ghz,
OS win2k, one with RME the other with Delta 1010,
maybe CM could give more detailed infos

    b. What version of giga did you use?

    Version 2.53

    c. What sequencer did you use?

    Cubase VST 5.1

    d. Did you use any notation program to trigger samples?

no, but I like to work with the score mode in cubase

    e. how long did it take?

Here I only could give exact timeschedules for the Dvorak piece,
it's the only demo I did with the finalized mapping.

I worked 8 to 10 hours for sequenzing and capturing the wav files.

    3. Did you load up all samples and play all parts off computers at same time?

I used both engines for the major setup of the piece.
For wav export I only used one engine and loaded only the samples I need for one instrument. It's a cool workflow, because you focus on one instrument, and have enough Ram, if you want to use more different patches.

    4. Did you have a big team to do the demos?

No, I work alone, but I don't mix my work. I do not have mixing gear in my studio. I only want to focus on the composing and arranging workflow, and than send wav files to my mixing engineer Dietz Tinhof.

    5. Do you think that one person could make productions at the same quality?

Of course, it's only a matter of time. My only advantage is, I know all the samples. The other composers have to check the stuff out in the beginning.
I would say, I'm a better sample producer than composer.
That's my opinion since I heard the first userdemos. [:D]

    best wishes
    Herb
