  • Dynamic Compression and Lyrical Legatos

I never really understood the introduction of "Dynamic Compression" in the Synchron Player, because, in my opinion, the libraries sound "better" or more natural without it. Also, I don't think that the volume balancing makes sense. I prefer the instruments with both compression and volumes untouched. It might be due to the fact that you time-aligned the (main) microphones... is compression really needed? To me it sounds, as I said before, unnatural (in lack of a better term).

One other thing I noticed is: With compression deactivated (i.e. with a value of 0% ) there is something wrong with the mapping of the lyrical legatos. I haven't tested every instruments yet, but for some the dynamic layers (p > f) are reversed. The flute (one of the first ones with this lyrical approach) is correct, but the oboe and others are reversed. Is this a bug?

  • Hello Pixelpoet1985!

The default value of "Dynamic Compr." is 127. With this setting dynamics will be played in relation as they have been recorded. If you turn down this fader, the dynamic range will be reduced. Low dynamics will get louder this way. If you turn it down to the extreme (0), it might very well be the case that for some articulations the soft dynamic layers get louder than the loud ones.

    Best regards,
    Andi
