Hi.
Im looking at replacing my two i7 32 gb RAM server pcs with a single AMD 9950x pc as a server and notice that AMD is limited to 96gb RAM if sticking to spec. My template is very large and very busy.
I'm currently using VSL Special Editions but will be upgrading to Synchron as I go. I also use Kontakt lightly but plan to expand on my use of that.
The two i7 machines are struggling.
Is a single AMD 9950x with 96GB RAM enough to replace the two i7 machines with plenty of room to grow?

My (very limited) understanding is that for AMD CPU''s to run RAM at DDR5 speeds it can only use two sticks of RAM which limits it to 96gb due to DDR5 not currently having bigger capacity sticks than 48gb each. I think it is possible to overclock the RAM sticks but it comes with stability issues and my main concern after being able to handle big busy projects is stability and longevity.
I would be very happy to be wrong. I'm very new to all this tech stuff and am piecing bits of information from wherever I can find it. There isn't a resource where I can find specifically what I need to put together a capable system that I'm aware of.
Currently, AMD 7000 & 9000 series CPU support 192GB ram with 4 slots. Using x670E and x870E can ensure all of ram run on 6000MHz. The 9950x compared to your old i7 will be a giant improvement for the single core performance is at least doubled. You can check the result of R23 or CPUZ for these information.
By the way, if you are looking forward to update your main computer with higher ram, you can check Intel W3400,W3500,W2400,W2500 series as well as AMD Threadripper 7000&9000 series. Other workstation CPU will have little improvement, specially W3300, Threadripper 5000 pro.
