  • Confusion over VI Pro use, will not load libraries that went through some kind of conversion process done by VSL.

About a year ago, I took the plunge and bought some Synchron libraries (I think). At the time, I was informed on the website that my existing VI libraries had to be converted in some way. So I went through all the VI libraries, and they now show up as registered libraries under MY VSL. I cannot get these libraries to load into VI Pro, and they don't even show up on Synchron Player. When I load the latest VI Pro player, it shows the libraries on the right, as usual. But they won't load. I have checked ILok and all the libraries are Activated. Synchron Player doesn't show any of these libraries on the right side, unlike VI Pro.

So, does anyone have any ideas on how to load these VI instruments, that is, those that were converted somehow by VSL about a year ago when I logged on. I still have the old files for these libraries.

I've been a user of these libraries for 10 or more years.

  • Have you activated the licences via the iLok manager? That's the most common reason for libraries you've purchased failing to show up in the Synchron Player. I've been caught out a couple of times... I've bought a library, it shows up in Vienna Assistant and MyVSL, "all done!" I think. Then I can't see it... "Oh yes, iLok..." Then they appear.

Synchron libraries won't load into VIPro.

  • First of all, thank you for your suggestion. I did check ilok and all the files are activated. On Vienna Assistant, the files are shown in their proper location. They are stored, along with the Synchron libraries, on a USB SSD drive. Synchron files do play on the Synchron player from these locations. The VIPro player seems to have gone crazy. It lists all sorts of libraries I don’t even have in the righthand window where you pick instruments! I’ve tried all of them, there are many, and they all show red. Vienna Assistant now freezes when I try to remove the VI files (so as to reinstall them) or to move them. So the VA is essentially useless. I did send a tech request into VSL and received a prompt answer, but the suggested solution didn’t work, and I so advised them.
Right now I feel like I’m waiting for a message in a bottle with a solution. There does not appear to be a way to reset VA so I can start over, or maybe my files were damaged when they went through the ilok conversion, thousands of dollars worth. Sad.

  • Hi Ege,

Trying to find your support case. Which case number is it?

    It's Steve, BTW.

(Case 554819) VI instruments not loading into either VIPro or Synchron player

TL;DR -- dead key, need help using Temporary cloud licenses

In the Support Case cited, 554819, after I "synchronized" the keys using iLok Manager program -- at the suggestion of Marnix, I was able to access my Synchron and VI instruments. So all looked well! Then, in a later session things stopped working again. The problem was a failed key.

The iLok key on which I had stored my licenses was not lit up, as was the other key (I have 2). I tried different USB A slots in my hub (which had worked fine previously and still worked for the other key), and then tried direct connection to my M2 Mac Studio and to the Display with the same result in both cases, key appeared faulty or dead - either would blink and stop or never light up.

I put in a request with iLok for a new key under their Zero Downtime program. For about $90 I was able to order a new key and receive temporary access to my licenses, all of which appeared today in the iLok Manager program as being stored in the cloud, but as "Temporary". I was told by iLok that these cloud licenses will expire in about 2 weeks while I wait for the new Dongle, presumably with the licenses from the dead key stored on the new key. While making my request for a new key, I asked them how to store just on the cloud so I don't have worry about key failure in the future.

Unfortunately for me, the "Temporary" licenses don't work to give access to my instruments, Vi or Synchron. I couldn't find a way to temporarily use them while I await arrival of the new iLok key. I assume I must do something here, at VSL, to switch over to cloud licenses for most of my instruments (some are still stored on the working key) -- and then to switch back to the new Dongle when I get it.

==> If you could tell me how to allow use of the Temporary Cloud licenses I would appreciate it, Paul. Also, if you can tell me the steps needed to switch ALL my VSL licenses to the cloud, that would be an added bonus.

Of course, there's always pencil, paper and my acoustic piano.

    Thank you for your inquiry.
