  • New to VE Pro 7. Have some questions.

    Hello!

I'm excited to jump into this community and process with my own set up. However I have some concerns before I get everything running that I want to make sure are possible.

I have a 3 computer set up. (Mac Studio Master, two PC server computers) All my libraries are split on the two server computers and my sfx/wav files are on my Master Computer.

I had been meaning to upgrade to this set up for quite some time, but have so much anxiety about the switch. Here are some general questions I'd love help with.

Can you simply "browse" through your VePro connection to find something you want to use? Or are you locked into templates you create? I find in my creative process, sometimes you need to go "searching" for a sound that is not in your standard template... Is it as simple as accessing Kontakt through VePro to do so? What does this process look like? I'm worried that I'll set up VePro to make my workflow easier, but will be overlooking the simplicity of just having a big Thunderbolt Array with drives set up that are direct connect to my computer.

    Thanks in advance,

    Tyler

  • You can search and switch instruments in Kontakt loaded on a VEP channel exactly like you would do if it is directly loaded on a track in your DAW. Only if the instruments and sounds you want to screen are not on the same PC you are using for your libraries, you might need two separate Kontakt channels in VEP to be able to load all possible contents you have available.

  • what I do:

I set up VePro only with instruments I reuse everytime and do not change. f.e. Orchestral instruments.

If I use Kontakt or a Synth, I usually load them locally on my master so the patch gets not lost. Everything else I leave untouched on the slave setup. This is a way to stay consistent throughout old and new projects. decouple and preserve the slave instance!!

IF you really change your setup on the slaves, I suggest you save the VePro Project and back it up in your project folder of your DAW as well. I tend to do it whan I create special patches. I put all in a folder called "Setups" and make subfolders for every pliugin I like to save the settings for.

I am not sure, and will ask this in a different post, if Kontakt patches can be saved somehow remotely, but my first test indicate not.
