  • Intel Core Ultra compatibility

I want to buy a new computer and think about buying either a

    • Intel Core i9-14900K or a
    • Intel Core Ultra 9 285K

(both with 96 GB RAM and M.2 SSD).

Did anyone already test any synchron pianos with a Intel Core Ultra processor and could guess if the Concert D-274 Full library with 8 mics activated (or if possible even more Mics) would work without any noticable lags or other issues?

I tested the Concert D-274 Full library with 8 mics activated on a MacBook Pro from 2021 with an M1 max processor and 64 GB RAM and it works without issues (but its not my own laptop and I prefer PCs over Macs).

I also tested the Fazioli F308 on that MacBook. With 10 mics I sometimes had some issues on the M1 max processor, I think, but with 7 mics it worked.

  • Hi! Since update v1.3.816, the Synchron Pianos Player software supports multi-processing. You are no longer limited to processing with a single CPU core like it was the case back then. Best, Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

thank you for your reply. Do you think the Concert D-274 Full library with 8 mics activated (or if possible even more Mics) would work without any noticable lags or other issues on both mentioned processors (especially also the Core Ultra)?

Both processors have 8 Performance-cores and 16 Efficient-cores. The newer Intel Core Ultra 9 285K doesn't support Hyperthreading, but I guess that this is not relevant? But maybe some other differences in these CPUs may cause differences in the performance when used with VSL instruments, that is why I'm asking.

  • Best to try with a demo license. I don't have any numbers for you. However, eight cores should be acceptable as the processing will still be spread over the available cores.

  • Alright, I already own these pianos and tried them on the mentioned MacBook but hadn't bought the PC yet.

As both processors (i9 and Core Ultra 9) use the same instruction set architecture, I assume the Core Ultra 9 will work as well, although it is not mentioned on the System Requirements page.

I just ordered a PC with a Core Ultra 9 processor and will let you know, how well it works.
