  • Dynamic Range vs. Dynamic Compression

    Hi,

I'm confused as to the meaning of these two values (Dynamic Range vs. Dynamic Compression) in Synchron Player.
The manual didn't clarify these values for me.

One is supposed to be set to 127, the other to 64.

When loading the factory presets for Synchron String Pro only Dynamic Range is used, while the Synchron Prime Edition only uses Dynamic Compression.

    Thanks for any help
    Stefan

  • Hi Stefan!

Dynamic Compression can only reduce the dynamic range. Default is value 127, which doesn't compress the dynamic range. The lower this value is set, the louder the soft dynamic layers will get.
Dynamic Range works in both ways. With the default value 64 the dynamic range stays as it has been recorded. Lower values will compress the dynamic range, higher values will expand the dynamic range. So soft dynamic layers will get even softer.

The Dynamic Range fader has been introduced to Synchron Player later. That's the reason why older libraries use Dynamic Compression and newer libraries use Dynamic Range.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi,

    thanks for the quick response!

Part of my confusion came from the fact, that Dorico seems to manipulate the dynamic curve also in some way.
Not sure how this works so far, hope to figure this out as well.

    Best regards

    Stefan
