Hi all, and happy new year!
I've been facing a new issue lately and I was hoping your experience could shed some light on it and help me find the correct settings.
I built a large template in VE Pro where I have ~90 VI Pro instances in a single VE Pro tab. There's a mix of VI Series Woodwinds & Brass, Dimension Brass, Dimension Strings, Solo Strings and Chamber Strings. The template is plugged into Sibelius.
I'm using Windows 10 with an 8-core i7 CPU and 64Gb of RAM, and I don't have any issue on this side (CPU is always around 35% max, RAM is 50% free). All my VI-Series samples are stored in the same 1Tb internal SSD drive.
My current settings are as follows:
In Directory Manager:
- Dimension Strings : 8192 sample preload
- All other VIs : 4096
In VI Pro:
- Streaming threads: 16
- Mixing threads: 4
- Preallocated voices: 8192
- Maximum voices: 8192
- Instance voices: max
I'm experiencing drop-outs (pops, not cracks) in dense sections (e.g. finger tremolos in thirds, sixteenth notes in 4/4 at 140 bpm on Dimension Strings + Chamber and high woodwinds) and fast marcato lines. The drop-out issue disappears when I don't have the Dimension Strings playing.
I tried increasing the streaming threads but it didn't help. It also seems that increasing the buffer makes the drop-out issue even worse.
Can you spot any issue with my settings? Any suggestion would be welcome. Also, I'm not always sure whether VE Pro/VI pro should be restarted so the changes take effect. Please let me know if you have any advice on this matter.
I've not extremely savvy with computers and I admit I am a bit ovewhelmed by the complexity of interactions at play in the system.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Esther
