  • Is MIR Pro 3D backwards compatible with MIR Pro?

I've finally made the leap to an Apple Silicon DAW computer, which means that VEP 7 will only run MIR Pro in Rosetta mode. The way I have worked with MIR Pro (for better or worse) is to route all my audio channels from VEP into DP, then put MIR Pro plug-ins on those channels. If I upgrade to MIR Pro 3D, is there any way I can open those DP sessions, or will I have to redo the MIR Pro settings from scratch (for the switch to 3D)?

    Thanks,

    Peter

  • Easy task! 😊 Everything you set up with legacy Vienna MIR Pro will open with Vienna MIR 3D, too.

Still there are a few things to keep in mind:

    • You need to have any RoomPack you intend to use installed in its latest version. MIR 3D can't use RoomPacks made for legacy MIR Pro.
    • While the results you will achieve with MIR 3D will sound indistinguishable from legacy MIR Pro (at least as long as you didn't make use of any of MIR 3D's exclusive new features), it won't create bit-identical output.
    • If you need this for any reason whatsoever, your have two options: Either print all MIR tracks to audio for later use, or you keep legacy MIR's installer ready to switch back to the old version for these projects.
    • You can have RoomPacks for both versions installed, but only one version of the plug-in itself.
    • MIR is upwards-, but not downwards-compatible. You won't be able to open projects created and saved with MIR 3D with the legacy version.

    ... enjoy MIR 3D!

    You're welcome!

I forgot to mention that things might be more complicated if you used MIRacle - legacy MIR Pro's reverb add-on - a lot. Its successor that comes with MIR 3D is based on a completely new algorithm that doesn't work the same way. You will most likely need to recreate this part or your mixes, or at least pay careful attention to possible differences, especially in terms of decay filtering and modulation.
