Hi Everyone,
I'm pretty clueless with PCs since I'm a Mac person. I have a Mac Studio M2 Max with 96 GB of RAM and I use VEP 7. I'm thinking about using VEP 7 on a separate machine. I've done this before and it worked great but my PC is pretty old now. My question - is this machine okay? The eBay seller can customize it. I already have several SSD drives.

This computer configuration seems very well suited to me.
For my part, I use a PC of equivalent category, not with VEP 7,
but with Cubase Pro, Studio One Pro, Dorico Pro as well as all the VST instruments from Vienna VSL,
everything works perfectly.
My configuration :
DELL - i9-12900K 3.20 GHz - 128 Go - Windows 11 Pro
SSD 1 To (for the OS and applications) - SSD 4 To (for VST instruments)

from the technical data YES.
Also consider it to be as quiet as possible. There are some vendors that build custom music workstations and bring lots of knowledge to it.

I would give WINDOWS a debloat treat to get rid of unnecessary stuff like running services and so on. Also a graphicscard or on-board graphics ( I use 3 screens and run below 2GB on the graphics) WOuld not harm though to use a dedicated card instead of the chip-set.

Thank you for the information. Yes, we have companies in the US that specialize in building PCs for music production. Most of the companies are very expensive. I was hoping to get something stock that I could just add hard drives and more RAM. I don't think I'd need a great graphics card since I would only be using the PC for VEP 7. My main computer is a Mac Studio. I use Remote Desktop as well.
on a slave machine it depends if you wanna use many plugins in the chain or just stream the samples.
If streaming is the primary use, I think an i5 is even sufficent. The bottleneck is the network adapter and SSD.
I'd suggest getting a small SSD for windows and a fast M.2 for the libraries. Nice to have is a 2.5Gb Network card on a switch that is also capable of handling more than 1Gb - but I must say that the network did not really reach it's highpoint on my setup either. You can check it's performance in the TASK MANAGER. The processor is not very much at work in my setup.
Another point for me was the energy consumption. Thats why I set up four Lenovo ThinkCentre M920q (sorry, not Dell) MINI PCs with 2x M.2 and 64GB RAM.
They use much less power than big tower PCs.
Also if you wanna stick with a full PC, consider using a 19" rack, so you can put additionals later in one rack.
