I have a really stupid question: I really interested in the studio Brass but what is new compared to the price of the vienna instruments? I own the Flugelhorn in VI and I got the studio version. They sound different. What about the other instruments?

Studio Brass - what’s new?

It's not a stupid question, I don't think. If you're using one of the Synchron mixer presets, including the default, they will sound different because they're using Impulse Responses to place the sounds onto the Synchron Stage and a lot of them also use EQ, effects, etc. If you want to get rid of that, and go back to the dry samples (as in VIPro), choose the "MIR Unprocessed" mixer preset. Although intended for use with MIR3DPro, you don't have to use it for that, and it gives you the samples without the IRs, EQ, effects, etc.
I had all of the VI Brass stuff (Brass I, II, Special, Single Instruments such as Flugelhorn, extra Trumpet, etc.) and recently cross-graded to the two Studio Brass collections, for a very reasonable price. As well as the mixer presets (personally I have MIR so use Unprocessed), you get a lot of configuration work done for you, though you can tweak this. I've only had a week with it but so far I'm pretty pleased.

Hello Nick, thank you for your answer. I own the Synchron Brass already and I wonder if I get something new with the Studio Brass. If I understand you well I will get the dryer versions of the articulations with Studio but if I see the size of the content compared to the VI-versions I wonder if they have the same number of articulations. It´s not only a money-subject but I question myself if OI shouldn´t go deeper into what I have already.

Your question was about the difference between the VI and Studio versions. I don't have Synchron Brass but those are recorded with lots of ambient reverb, i.e. the sound of the Synchron Stage. With the Studio versions you have the option of adding this, via the mixer presets, but you also have the option of the much dryer samples, so you can use either something like MIR or a reverb of your choice. I can't comment on articulations, other than to say that the Studio versions have a lot. You can compare the lists on the website.
Ultimately it comes down to this: are you happy with the Synchron sound or do you sometimes find yourself wishing you had dryer samples to put into a difference space? It depends on the kind of music you're making: if it's classical and/or soundtrack-type stuff then Synchron is going to be perfect. However, if you sometimes want something smaller, or different, Studio is great. I use MIR3D so Studio is my own choice. You can, of course, use Synchron products for different sounds by using the close mics, which have less reverb in them.
Hope that helps a bit! If in doubt, ask for a demo licence and try things out. VSL are very good in that respect, they let you try things for 30 days before paying.
