  • How Many MIR Inserts are Typically Used?

    Hi,

Apologies but I have a MIR beginner question.

I'm planning how to add AudioBro MSB to my template and use MIR to place it in the Synchron hall.

Is it better to use an insert per instrument to separate everything, or would one insert for say, all 4 trumpets suffice?

Unfortunately MIR Pro 3D crashes on launch on my HP Z640 VEPro 7 machine. If there's an advantage to separating everything it'd be best to resolve this issue to run MIR on the VEPro machine, else I could run one insert per group of instruments on my main DAW.

    Thanks,

    Roger

    Hi Roger,

    welcome to MIR! 😊

The "official" way to use MIR is in fact a dedicated instance (and consequently: MIR-"player"-Icon) for each instrument. Like in a real hall, the subtle differences between the individual positions will greatly enhance the impression of an enveloping room, rather than just "adding reverb".

That said, it is also quite common to use one instance for a group, an ensemble of very similar instruments, e.g. "1st violins", "Eight Horns". You can easily do this by adding MIR to a bus channel that contains a submix of your four trumpets. - Just make sure to spread them evenly between far left and far right, otherwise you will lose even more sense of space once you put the MIR Icon on a Venue's stage.

Regarding the crashes you mentioned: Please get in contact with support@vsl.co.at , VSL's support team should be able to sort out the issue for your. Please include the system report ("Support File") created by Vienna Assistant:

  • Hi Dietz,
    Thanks for this!

It looks like the best solution would be to run MIR on the VEPro machine then.
    Support request sent!

Another question - Would MIR be accessible from all the instances running on VEPro?

    Thanks.

Yes, as long as all instances "live" inside the same host, they will all appear in MIR 3D's main GUI. You can then put all MIR Icons on one single stage, or you open additional "Tabs" in MIR to use different settings for different tasks (or simply for keeping things visually separated and tidy). IOW: Any "Project" within one VE Pro Server will also access one main GUI of MIR 3D.

Consequently, if you would start another host side-by-side on the same machine, this would open another main GUI of MIR 3D, too.
