  • Laptop Setup

    Hi Everyone,

Sorry if this question has been asked before - I’m sure it has. I have a fairly large setup in my studio, but I’m wanting to purchase Prime Edition for a mobile system. My M1 Macbook Pro only has 16 GB of RAM so I’m thinking that will be pretty limiting.

My question is, how would a new Macbook Pro with 32 GB do with Prime?

    Thanks

My 2012 MBP with 16GB RAM and 2 internal SSD drives has no trouble running Cubase/Vienna Ensemble Pro, Mir3D, and patches from the full Vienna libraries...

You should maybe ask them for a free trial of prime to try it out and confirm if your system will work.

  • Hi Jason,

Thanks for the reply. I must have tried it a couple of years ago but I don’t remember. I tried the demo, but it said something like I used it up. Perhaps I can request another one. If you have success on a 2012 I would think mine would be fine as well. I think my MBP is 2021.

yes, if you only have one hard drive you might want to keep your samples on an external thunderbolt 3/usb c drive... just make sure it actually has good performance, as some external drives are inferior

if you find that playing all samples 'live' at the same time starts to bog down your system, you can try 'freezing' the tracks, that can help reduce the load if necessary.

Good advice. Yes, I always have my libraries on separate drives. I used to have everything on a PC with VEP Pro, but now I’m on one Mac Studio for my studio setup. Thanks again for the reply.
