  • Predictable but Random MIDI or Audio Glitch

I'm having a strange issue that only occurs once--the first time I playback a sequence of a piece I am working on, the same note at measure 68 doesn't play, instead i hear a kind of "pop", the note gets cut off. If I rewind and play it again, it's fine and fine for the rest of the session. This happens at one other point in the composition as well, but again, upon 2nd and subsequent playbacks, all is good.

I am running Cakewalk (latest version) on a DAW with 32GB of RAM, fast SSD drives and the MIDI data is sent via Ethernet to a computer (same configuration) that is dedicated to the Vienna Symphonic Library orchestral cube. I've tried changing buffer sizes but this doesn't fix it. I am usually competent at troubleshooting, but because this problem only and always occurs at particular measures I haven't been able to figure it out yet. The problem sample that's being triggered is also playing earlier in the piece and plays back fine, which makes me think it's not because the sample isn't fully loaded into memory.

The audio is being returned to the DAW via ADAT and I've run system checks and both computers are more than adequate to handle audio streams (i7 CPUs in both computers).

Anyone know what the problem may be? If the sample got corrupted it wouldn't play correctly each time it's triggered, but this is not the case.

    Thanks!
