    I was wondering if after finishing a song (setting up EQ and reverb w/in the sampler), is it necessary to mess with the EQ and such afterwards? Hope that makes sense...

    Hmmm ... maybe I misunderstand your question completely, but I think you are wondering about a process usually called "Mastering" (... actually: pre-mastering), which is the last step _after_ mixing, but _before_ cutting the master for mass-replication (be it vinyl, CD, or whatever). Is this what you want to discuss?

    [:D] ... my "program" is a set of human beings, equipped with arms. legs, and - most important - golden ears, with access to impressing collections of both analogue and digital gear and finally great listening environments. I use to call them "Mastering Engineers". - One of these guys with the most impressing credits in this country is Mr. Martin Rajek, who is a core-member of the MIR-development team, BTW.

    But seriously: Whenever you want to finalize your work for more than you personal listening pleasure, you should really consider the help of someone spezialized in this task.

    For the quick'n'dirty "Make it LOUDER!"-tweaks I use a combination of gentle saturation for more density (like Steinberg's Magneto, PSP's VintageWarmer or CraneSong's HEDD/Phoenix), some unobtrusive EQing to get rid of ugly resonances, and finally multi-band compression/limiting depending on the situation (tools for this task range from Waves' L3, db-AudioWare's db-M or t.c.electronic's MD3).
