• VE Pro and Pro Tools 2024 sync issue

I’ve just upgraded to Pro Tools 2024.10 and I’m having major issues with VE Pro.

VSL VE Pro tracks are randomly playing out of sync with each other and the whole session. It’s very odd because for a given VE Pro instance addressed by multiple Instrument Tracks in Pro Tools, some tracks will play in time but others are noticeably out of time. They all have the same routing and one instance of FabFilter Pro Q-3 each.

I’m wondering if it’s delay compensation related. For example, in one session that I have issues, I removed an instance of Oeksound Spiff that was causing a large amount of system delay. Playback was ok after that and when I put the instance of Spiff back it was still ok! Currently mixing eight tracks and most of them now have timing/sync issues.

Also I’m getting CPU overloads which weren’t happening in PT 2024.3.1 with the same sessions. Quite a lot of them! PT is telling me to increase the buffer but it’s already at maximum! In 2024.3.1 I was running at 512 with no errors. In 2024.10 I’m at 1024 and getting errors. Pretty much everything in the sessions are VE Pro tracks with just a few audio tracks. Also an instance of VE Pro that was set to a buffer multiplier of 0 previously played back fine, I’ve now had to increase that instance to a buffer multiplier of 2.

Is it just me or is this happening to anyone else?

  • OK I just read the What’s New in Pro Tools 2024.10 manual.

There is new MIDI Delay Compensation functionality in 2024.10. It defaults to OFF on a track by track basis.

Will check when I’m back in the studio tomorrow but I hope this is the issue!

Enabling the new MIDI Delay Compensation function hasn’t helped. I’ve had to revert back to PT 2024.3.1.
