Dorico 5 is not playing dynamics. I have the expression map set up for Syncron Brass. But it has no effect on playback.

The most likely cause is that you loaded Synchron Brass manually in Play mode by adding the VST and assigning the map, and you loaded the wrong preset (not the preset that the Synchron Brass map was intended to use).
The way you are supposed to load up Synchron Brrass is to go into the Play menu, choose Playback Templates and apply your "VSL Default Template" (or whatever template you have created through the Vienna Assistant Dorico Wizard) it will remove all VST's loaded in Dorico and reload the correct VSTi's with the correct presets that match the maps and apply the maps. So it does everything automatically.
If for some reason you need to do things manually in a specific file (ex. if you've made customization to the playback you don't want to lose), what you should do is create a new dummy Dorico file with the instruments loaded and apply the VSL playback template through the Play menu in Playback Templates, and then open the individual VST instances in Play mode to see which preset the template has loaded up. You will probably find that the dynamics work in this dummy file and that the preset it has loaded is different from the one that you loaded when you were trying to do it manually.
