  • Can you go back to uncompressed samples?

Since the latest update of the standalone piano player the loading time for presets is almost 30 seconds on my Macbook Pro M1...

(And already in the version below I was a bit annoyed by the increased loading time compared to the situation as it was before compressed samples were introduced. But now it's really slow.)

Can you switch back to uncompressed samples?

Sorry if I missed some documentation of this & Thanks!

  • Hi Michael,

It sounds like something is off there. To be honest, I do not expect the smaller sample content why you see an increase in your system's loading times. Please contact us via support@vsl.co.at.

  • Thanks, will do. I get a rainbow beach ball during opening of a preset and don't see a progress bar at the bottom as it once was. We'll see. Storage location is as before in the Shared Users folder.

  • I can confirm that loading time is much increased since the introduction of the compressed files. I guessed it had to do with the computer has to "unpack" the files before loading or something, it doesn't bother me really but still. I have a M3 MacBook air with 24GB RAM.

  • The same amount of bytes get loaded into RAM and nothing gets unpacked; the data are loaded compressed into RAM.

  • I haven't noticed an increase of loading time since the change to compressed files took effect (Win 10, Intel 6600K (no overclocking) 32 GB RAM).

Thank you for that information. But the loading takes longer now even on my ny computer (M3 MacBook Air) then my older intel i5 MacBook Pro. And during loading time I too se the "spinning ball". I wonder why that is?

  • Yesterday's update seems to have fixed the loading time issue. Thank you VSL!

  • Yes, fixed! Thanks VSL team!
